In the spring of 2020, Keagan was home from Mercer for spring break. Covid was in the air. Maintaining a safe distance of six feet apart, Keagan and Ashlynn had their first date, and from that moment on, they were inseparable.
On that very first date, Keagan told Ashlynn he was going to marry her. She didn't believe him, though. Stay tuned to find out if he was right.
Despite the closures at the time, they had unconventional dates, spending hours in gas station parking lots scratching lottery tickets, watching every movie ever made, and driving aimlessly. Fun fact: Waffle House was the first restaurant to reopen, so Keagan treated Ashlynn to her first romantic dinner there. I know what you're thinking—if that's romantic, where did they eat for their first date? The Taco Bell drive-thru.
As schools began to reopen, Keagan had to return to Mercer. He drove home every Thursday after class to see Ashlynn and woke up at 5 a.m. on Mondays to drive back to Macon. This routine lasted for one semester before he realized he couldn't spend three days a week without Ashlynn. He began the process of transferring to KSU, where he completed his mechanical engineering degree and landed his dream job at Lockheed Martin. Soon Ashlynn followed, finishing her nursing degree and starting her career as a registered nurse at WellStar Kennestone.
Now that we're all caught up, we can get to the good part: the proposal. For those of you who haven't heard the story, get ready for the most romantic proposal you'll ever hear. After Ashlynn graduated, Keagan planned a celebratory trip to a cabin in the woods of North Carolina, where he intended to propose. A horror movie cabin, quite literally in the middle of the woods. However, fate intervened when Keagan's truck got stuck in the mud, and the mission had to be aborted.
With his plan ruined, Keagan started plotting again. This time, he had the brilliant idea of taking Ashlynn to a winery for a tour, followed by a private bungalow proposal and a wine tasting. The only problem was that the winery messed up the order of events with wine tasting being first on the itinerary instead of the bungalow proposal.
After the tour, they went to the wine tasting, and considering Ashlynn rarely drinks, things got a little blurry—literally. Ashlynn doesn't clearly remember how they got to the bungalow, and neither of them can recall if she said yes. However, she has a ring on her finger, and you're all invited to the wedding, so we assume she did.
